The theme of the third series is “100 Years of the Explosion of the Roburit Factory”. It was released on March 20, 2006.
They are showing historic illustrations of the explosion in Witten 100 years ago.
On November 28, 1906, Witten became world-famous for a moment. At 8:00 p.m. the engine room of the factory catched fire. Due to the fact
that the water pipelines were damaged because of a burst pipe, the fire brigade could only save the belongings of the employees.
At 9:15 p.m. the storage room exploded. 41 people lost their lives.
The explosion was so enormous, that a dam in Witten-Annen (suburb) broke and masses of water flew into the city. Around the factory the buildings were heavily damaged. More than 2,000 people became houseless in a second.
The illustrations were provided by the local archive and an association that is collecting historical documents of Witten.
Publication date of this series was March 20. The “Ersttagsblatt“ is 9.80 euros. 1,000 limited and 1,000 unlimited copies are
available.
